A brutal murder is taking place in the bleak, remote countryside of northern Norway, and mass graves are uncovered linking old cases to missing persons. The case was assigned to special investigator Joel Dreyer, who arrived at the scene from the southern capital. His partner is Hedda, a female officer from the local police. Different characters, methods and past immediately contrast them with each other. And when the investigation begins to spiral out of control, both detectives resort to questionable moves to stay in the case and protect their personal secrets.
