On a hot July morning, at the height of the tourist season, 11-year-old schoolboy Danny Latimer disappears in the Dorset town of Broadchurch. His mother, Beth, starts looking for him, while her best friend, Ellie Miller, a local police officer, comes out of vacation to work and discovers that the promotion she was counting on is going to Detective Inspector Alec Hardy, a visitor with a reputation as a failure. When Danny’s body is found beneath the picturesque cliffs that line the city, opposites collide. Both Miller and Hardy are determined to solve the mystery of Danny’s murder. Ellie, perhaps overly sympathetic to the people in her community, Alec is as effective as he is dispassionate. When news of a crime spreads across the city, a chain reaction is triggered that will draw the attention of the entire country to Broadchurch, pulling out the city, its inhabitants and their secrets.
