Florence, 1934. The sinister dictator Mussolini and his associates take power in Italy into their own hands. But in sun-drenched, sleepy Florence, everything goes the same way. Here a motley company of elderly ladies from America and Britain, nicknamed “Scorpions” by local witches, leads a well-fed, measured and moderate existence.
Ladies spend their days in small talk, leisurely tea parties and discussions of the indisputable merits of their inimitable idol – Mussolini. But none of the “scorpions” yet suspects that very soon the idol will make their life in Italy unbearable, declare women dangerous and send them out of the country …
